Q1: What is our only hope in life and in death?
A: That I am not my own, 1 but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, 2 to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. 3 He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, 4 and has set me free from all the power of the devil. 5 He also preserves me in such a way 6 that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; 7 indeed, all things must work together for my salvation. 8 Therefore, by his Holy Spirit he also assures me of eternal life 9 and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for him.10
As many of you know, I have talked about dealing with depression a bit on this blog. One of my first Sundays at my church in Florida, the worship leader had us read this question and answer as part of our worship service. Ever since then, I’ve read it countless times on bad days or to remind my friends that life isn’t over on their bad days. But today isn’t a bad day. It’s a very very good day with very very good things to come from it (Lord willing things go according to plan). So in this, the motivation Monday is to stay positive and stay humble. No matter what happens today, my only hope in life and in death is that I am not my own. That the sovereign creator God of the universe has woven every day into being and has created a plan for His glory and my good. So, it’s time to get up and kick butt today.
